IGN is reporting that
Spider-Man's Sam Raimi is planning to direct a movie that would team up Doc Savage with The Shadow, The Avenger and other characters from the Street and Smith stable.
That's an item heavy with the stench of too-good-to-be-true, though Raimi is a big Shadow fan and tried for years to get a movie off the ground before the 1994 Alec Baldwin flop. That one had some nice bits, as did the Doc Savage movie. We'll have to talk about it sometime.
Look for continuing coverage as only the Department of Justice can provide. :^)

This idea sounds so-so at best. Doc Savage and the Shadow are iconic heroes who are strong enough to carry their own films. A big "team-up" movie would prevent decent development of each individual character.
The Doc Savage movie of the 1970s with Ron Ely was pretty bad and I never saw The Shadow movie, although I'm probably one of the few people who will openly admit to actually liking Alec Baldwin as an actor.
I don't like Alec much myself but I enjoyed The Shadow. Didn't realize it was that much of a flop.
I think an idea like this might sound great but what with the way Hollywood makes movies and changes them for the sake of I really don't hold my breath. If they only stuck to what the character was without trying to change and or update them they could actually make a decent movie.
But you never know. Raimi is up for doing The Hobbit. We'll see how that goes. If he pulls it off I might think differently.
So many reasons why I don't like this idea at all. Pulp Maven is right that a team up would take away from so many of the supporting characters. To them all justice, you'd need a six hour movie and we all know that isn't going to happen. No, each of these character needs their own flick. The Baldwin movie, like the Ron Ely one, looked beautiful and that was half the problem with it. This was 30s New York, it should have looked worn and dirty.
New out of Hollywood today..Sam Raimi is doing a SHADOW movie. No team ups or such, just the Shadow. Yahoo.
It was added he does have the rights to Doc and Avenger, but will do them all separately.
I think he'll make a great Shadow
movie.
