DEADNECK HOOTENANNY Trailer

Novello Publishers honcho Nick Cato has put together a trailer for Deadneck Hootenanny. I'm too much of an imbecile to embed it on this blog, so go watch it on Nick's Live Journal.

Good job, bro.

Deadneck Signing

Last week I signed a bunch of copies of Deadneck Hootenanny, then shipped them off to Bloodletting Press and Shocklines. So if you ordered a signed copy you should get it soon. Thanks to everyone for the support and the feedback on the book.

Here's the satisfied author:

Hey now! I look stunned because I just realized I used to have more hair.

Goodbye, Weekly World News

The Weekly World News is shutting down. The tabloid has been a staple at the supermarket checkout line since the late 70s. Best known for its stories of Presidents meeting aliens and the travails of Batboy, I'll remember the paper for its sense of humor and for one of its editors.

For several years Leskie Pinson went on my radio show once a week to discuss the stories in the latest edition of the Weekly World News. He was originally from here -- Huntington, WV -- and a big fan of Marshall University sports and the Cincinnati Reds.

And he was frickin' funny. I always enjoyed talking with him, on and off the air. He never failed to make me laugh.

Leskie passed away two years ago this month, far too early. And now the Weekly World News, with those wacky stories, is going away as well.

I'm surprised at how sad that makes me feel.

Vacation Zips Along

Here I am midway through the second of two week's vacation, and I haven't accomplished a thing.

But I guess that really depends on how you define vacation. Me, I'm always torn between a need to rest up from my mentally-demanding job and the urge to get a lot of writing done. So I vacillate between the two until I stress out. Then I collapse on the couch like a slug for a few days with a pile of books and DVDs. That's what I'm doing now. I just took a bathroom break and passed the computer, so I thought I should update the ol' blog.

I actually had family matters that took me out of town last week, plus Pulpcon. Dave Wilbanks and I took care of some Dead Earth business, including the copy for the dust jacket. We'll see if PS likes it.

I also got some advance money this week from two books, so I was able to score major husband points by buying Beauty and the Beast: Season Two for Norma. Or, as I like to call it, The Show Where the Chick from Terminator and the Guy Who Played Hellboy (But Looks Like A Giant Cat Here) Whisper to Each Other.

Superhero Spotted at Local Park

Sad But Not Unexpected

Does Size Matter?

As you might have guessed from the title, this is NOT work friendly.

25 Years of Being Married To Me????

Yep, 25 years ago Norma and I were hitched. I often tell people -- after they tell me I married up (which I get a lot) -- that alcohol was involved. Really, though, I don't know what made her say yes and what has kept her around for a quarter century. But I'm glad she has.

It's great to know someone has my back, and vice versa, no matter what happens. I'm not sure what influence I've had on her, but any tiny hint of social grace I possess is due to Norma. She's made me a better person, since it's impossible to be around her kindness and unselfishness every day and not be affected. And she had always had faith in my writing, long before I did.

Did I mention that she's beautiful and she's a great cook?

Sometimes it doesn't suck to be me.

Happy anniversary, honey.
