Looking at this fun Superman cover,
I have to believe that's a Curt Swan drawing? It's so clean and defined.

Ron,

The Grand Comic Database says it was penciled by Swan with inks by Stan Kaye and Kurt Schaffenberger.

While the Superman figure looks like pure Swan, Lois and Lana look like they were totally Schaffenberger. He was the ultimate Lois artist.

Yup, you got it, Mark. Geez, looking at these, makes me wish today's young turks would take a lesson from these
old pros. Way too much of today's comic art, in my humble opinion that is, seems scratchy and uncomposed.
(is that a word?)

What I really dislike is the influence of manga is mainstream American superhero books. Maybe I'm too old, but the whole Japanese art movement has passed me by. I don't need superheroes with big eyes and big feet.

I don't think its a sign of being too old Mark, I feel the same way myself. I'm a huge anime buff and like manga, but I really dislike how American comics have tried to use manga style art as well. I look at it as this... when I read an American comic I expect to see that style of art and when I see manga I expect to see that style of art. What is going on now in American comics is the equivalent of showing up at an AC/DC concert to see a rock show and them instead playing Celtic folk music, I may like both types of music but they just don't mess and it isn't what you expect. Marvel and DC should stick with what they do best and I hope we will soon see the manga styling in titles like Wolverine be a footnote in history.
Hope you had great holidays by the way :)

Hey, Brian!

Sorry we missed you at Xmas. Thanks for the gift.

I agree with everything you say about comics, by the way.

I think there aren't enough artists knowledgable in "old school" superhero art anymore. It reminds me of the bad pitching that resulted when major league baseball expanded to too many teams. :^)
